In a journalism career spanning some 25 years, Farland has reported on top stories across Asia & North America, covering world figures from Bill Clinton to Jackie Chan and Frank Sinatra to Princess Diana.
Farland has met with or covered a host of famous newsmakers, including US President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, China’s President Jiang Zemin, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Senator Ted Kennedy and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger; business titans Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer and Cher Wang; media celebrities Oprah Winfrey, Larry King, Steven Spielberg, George Clooney and Michael Bloomberg; and sports stars Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez & Michael Chang.
For CNN International based in Hong Kong, Farland launched CNN’s Asia Business Morning as the program’s Anchor and Correspondent. He conducted live interviews with market strategists, industry analysts, entrepreneurs, and movers & shakers. Farland also produced and reported the popular weekly segments Asia Rising and Entrepreneurs Only, which focused on the best success stories in Asia.
For NBC News based in Los Angeles, as a Network Correspondent, Farland filed stories from nearly all 50 states. And earlier, he reported for TV and radio news organizations in Seattle, Philadelphia, New York, Washington DC, Hawaii and Guam.
In public service, Farland served as International Trade Coordinator & Press Secretary for the former Lieutenant Governor of Delaware, S.B. Woo. Farland earned his Bachelor’s degree in Government from Cornell University; his Master’s from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, and his Postgraduate Certificate in Radio, Film & TV from the University of Bristol in England. Farland is a Paul Harris Fellow, after serving as a Rotary Goodwill Ambassador in the UK. Since 1999, Farland has taught journalism and lectured at UCLA, USC, Cornell, Hong Kong University & The Richard Ivey School of Business.
As Executive Producer of WorldBizWatch, Farland now develops programs that bridge east and west, including a video series about “Olympians in Pursuit of Perfection.” Other productions include collaborating with National Geographic photographer Michael Yamashita on the award-winning documentaries “Marco Polo: World’s Greatest Overland Journey” & “Zheng He: China’s Greatest Admiral” as well as the upcoming “Art of the Photographer: Paid To Be Lucky,” plus representing Deansee’s “The Wedding Race,” one of China’s 1st reality TV series, in new markets, and developing “Visionaries: Great Leaders Making Bold Visions Come True,” a new TV series inspiring young people to “Do Well, Do Good and Do Right.”.
